I READ with interest John Matthews' comments regarding speeding fines (Letters, January 14) and agree with everything he said. Our family has just had a similar experience with a speed camera.
What concerns me is that, in this day of so many instances of people driving without insurance and with no MoT certificate, not once did anyone ask to see our insurance.
Also, as our car has a 'private' number plate, no-one could tell from the speed camera picture if the car is one year old or 10 years old, but at no time were we asked about an MoT.
Surely, questioning drivers caught on speed cameras would be one way of catching MoT and insurance dodgers.
Nothing was said to us either about road tax. I know the authorities can check up on that, but I wonder if they do. Or are speed cameras just for the money?
