POLICE negotiators managed to persuade a 17-year-old boy who was threatening to jump from his bedroom window down to safety.
Sergeant Jo Warden, of Accrington, said a trained police negotiator was brought in to speak to the distressed boy, who had tied a ligature around his neck, and to the drainpipe of his home in Waterloo Street, Clayton-le-Moors.
Ambulance and fire crews were also standing by during the incident, which lasted two hours.
The boy was eventually helped down by Accrington firefighters unhurt.
Sergeant Worden praised the work of Sergeant Paul Langley from Accrington and Sergeant Damian Kitchen of Great Harwood police, who had both calmed the boy down before the trained negotiator arrived.
