POLICE are warning owners of 4x4 vehicles to be on their guard following the theft of a Land Rover in Belthorn.
Sgt Andrea Bradbury, of Darwen police, said it was possible that this type of vehicle was being stolen to order as it was the second theft to have happened recently.
Thieves took the Land Rover Discovery from the driveway of a house in Rydal Mount at 6.35pm on Sunday after breaking the householder's security lights.
A neighbour said they saw a suspicious-looking vehicle, described as a dark blue Ford Escort-type van, about an hour and a half before the theft took place.
Two men were seen in the van, one was described as in his early 20s, stocky with short hair.
The van and Land Rover were seen leaving in convoy and going on to the M65.
The silver Land Rover had the registration number MS04 XES.
Sgt Bradbury said: "It is possible that these 4x4 vehicles are being targeted by thieves."
