BLACKBURN fans were treated to their second goal feast in as many days as Alan Murray's men triumphed in this seven goal thriller at Morecambe's Christie Park.
Hot on the heels of the first team's 4-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday the previous night, the reserves survived a late comeback to chalk up another valuable home win courtesy of Damien Johnson's brilliant late strike.
Liverpool's star-studded line-up included Nicky Barmby, Vegard Heggem, Igor Biscan, Gregory Vignal and new £4 million signing Milan Baros, who was looking to impress watching Kop boss Phil Thompson.
But the visitors were ultimately swept aside by a young and hungry-looking Rovers side who were clearly determined to put on a show in front of a decent crowd of 1,175.
The home side made all the running in the first half as Marc Richards and Burton O'Brien both went close to breaking the deadlock before their incessant pressure finally paid off in the 37th minute.
O'Brien whipped over a corner from the right and Michael Taylor towered above the Liverpool defence to flick home an excellent header.
That lead lasted barely 10 minutes, however, as John Welsh put the visitors back on level terms immediately after the break.
But two goals in the space of three minutes then put Rovers firmly back in command.
Gordon Greer made it 2-1 on 50 minutes when he rose to power home another O'Brien corner and Jonathan Douglas capped another impressive performance with the third three minutes later.
Biscan pulled one back for Liverpool after a super one-two with Baros on 78 minutes.
But Johnson then provided Rovers with further breathing space when he steered a low drive past Jurgen Nielson following a diagonal run across the box.
That was to prove decisive as the visitors pulled another one back with two minutes left when Vignal blasted home a 25-yard free kick.
But Rovers held on for the victory their performance deserved.
