LEIGH town centre will join a successful national web site network when its new internet site goes on line.
On February 1 Leigh joins nearly 100 other British town and city centres which have developed web sites as part of the national Town Talk project.
The project enables shoppers, visitors and tourists to access a comprehensive range of information about their town centre, designed to make visits more informative and more enjoyable.
The Leigh Town Talk site www.leigh.towntalk.co.uk contains information about shops and businesses, plus events and news and a town centre map to help visitors find their way around. You can even send an electronic post card from Leigh to a friend or relative anywhere in the world!
The site has a special vacant property database with all the details of any empty units available in the town centre including property agents details, rents and rates. Pictures help give an accurate impression of the units.
Town Centre Manager, Laurie Barton said: "The Leigh Town Centre Management Initiative is delighted to be part of this project.
"The internet is developing all the time and many people now have regular access at home and at work. Our new website has a major role to play in the regeneration of Leigh town centre.'
All businesses within the town centre area receive a free listing on the site's shopping and businesses search facility and can purchase their own web pages or link their own sites to the www.leigh.towntalk.co.uk site at low cost.
Community groups will benefit from a page dedicated to local links especially for use by local people. To add a link is free and can be done quickly on line through the site. Groups are asked to visit the site and select the local links option on the main menu.
