TYLDESLEY RU made the long trip up to North Cumbria to face Cockermouth but they made the journey worthwhile with a comprehensive 22-3 victory.

Straight from the kick-off Tyldesley moved forward with Darren Edge splitting the defence with a strong run which resulted in quick recycled ball that the back line used well to bring full back Brent Broadhurst in for a score converted by Eddie Wallbank.

Hands on the ball

With both the lineout and scrum working well Tyldesley also kept a good defensive shape and didn't allow the home time any time to find their feet. From a lineout on the Cockermouth '22', Tyldesley caught the ball drove to the line, the maul began to roll and Dave Goodwin was one of several Tyldesley players with his hands on the ball when it was touched down for the try.

The second period saw the home side cut the lead with a penalty but Tyldesley's response was swift with stand off Mark Dickinson kicking deep for Gary Corbett to run on to the ball for a certain score. However the neck-high tackle by the last defender resulted in a penalty try which Wallbank converted with ease. Tyldesley continued to keep their shape despite having both Craig Pulman and Mark Swanton sin-binned for minor misdemeanours. With the clock ticking down Wallbank landed a penalty to ensure a vital and well earned win.

Tyldesley Knights travelled to Eccles and came away with a 23-17 win, while

the Dragons entertained Eccles at St.George's Park and in a dour affair Tyldesley came out winners 20-17.

Tyldesley Colts faced a difficult trip to Ormskirk in the league missing several players through unavailability. However, the 16 who did travel put in their best performance of the season to date to record a fantastic 48-10 away win.To a man Tyldesley tackled the much bigger Ormskirk players into the ground and with the ball won or secured at the breakdown the constant sniping runs of half backs Paul Martin and Paddy Littlewood allowed all the Tyldesley lads space to run in.

In the pack Lee Davies (2) and Peter Hayes scored tries along with prop David Kay who scored a try to be proud of. Both Flankers Andrew Oakden and Jamie Aldred put some big hits in and tackled all day. The back line had plenty of ball, time and space and Littlewood, Kevin Weaver, Gareth Pulman grabbed tries as did outside centre James Eckersley who kicked two conversions with Hayes kicking one and prop Neil Lloyd converting another. Next Sunday neighbours Bolton travel to St.George's Park for a 12.30pm kick off.

On Saturday Tyldesley travel again to Rossendale while the Knights entertain the same opposition at St.George's Park in a top of the table clash in the second team league kick off 2.30pm.
