MP Andy Burnham is trying to drum up parliamentary support for a fund-raising bike ride in aid of Leigh RMI.
The Leigh MP was inspired to ask the parliamentary all party football group, which has about 150 members, to sponsor the event after one of the cyclists, David Kedward of Wardour Street in Atherton, visited his surgery asking for help.
Mr Burnham said: "If every member of the group donated £1 we would have over £100, but it isn't just about the money, it's about raising awareness in Leigh. Local people want Conference football to survive in the town, so they all need to help."
The ride, from Horwich to Northwich, takes place on Saturday.
