NEW chairman of Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust is Cllr Brian Strett.
He has been a non-executive director for three years and became Acting Chairman when Andrew Foster left in May 2001 to take up the post of Director of Human Resources for the Department of Health.
Trust Chief Executive Sheena Cumiskey said: "Brian's immense knowledge of local people and local issues has already proved an asset to Trust Board. Brian has already been doing an excellent job as Acting Chairman for several months now and I know he will make a significant impact as Chairman."
Cabinet
He has served as a Labour member of Wigan Council for 23 years and is currently cabinet member for Environment.
He lives with wife, Phyllis, in Lowton.
Brian said: "I am delighted to have been chosen by the Appointment Commission to chair the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Acute Trust. I have spent a great part of my life working to improve health and social care in the borough. This appointment will give me the opportunity to further that work and join with other health and social care partners to improve further the health and well being of the people who live and work in the borough."
NHS Trust Chairman appointments are made by the Secretary of State for Health and candidates are required to declare any ministerial appointments. Mr Street does not have any other ministerial appointments. As Chairman, Mr Strett will receive an honorarium of £19,825 per annum.
