A FATHER and son from Bury had to be rescued after getting lost in the Lake District.
The 48-year-old and his teenage son were caught in rain and gales and became disorientated during a walking trip in the Margale area of Haweswater.
The alarm was raised at 9.30pm on Friday (Jan 18) by the man's wife after they failed to return home.
Volunteers from the Penrith Mountain Rescue Team finally located the cold, wet and tired pair at 3am.
The walkers, who have not been identified, were escorted to safety by the team members.
The rescue took place one week after a Bury climber was winched to safety after becoming trapped 250 feet up a rock face in the Patterdale area of Cumbria. A seven-hour rescue operation was launched when the 25-year-old called police on his mobile phone.
A spokesman for Cumbria police said that the route taken by the father and son in the latest incident was treacherous and many people had found themselves in difficulty in poor weather conditions.
