RESIDENTS in Brierfield who attended a public meeting to discuss improvements to the town centre were told they would begin to see work taking place within the next two weeks.
A group of around 30 residents gathered in Brierfield Youth and Community Centre to hear about the council's plans for spending £400,000 in the area.
Funding was made available by Pendle Partnership and Lancashire County Council, who committed £200,000 each.
The first project which will take place will be a safer routes to school scheme.
This will include 20mph zones in the Walter Street Primary School area, additional and improved lighting on the roads to Mansfield High School and to Walter Street Primary School and improved footways. Other work will include new street furniture, boundary and signage and canopies to shop fronts. It was agreed these should be in a traditional Victorian style to fit in with the buildings and surroundings of Brierfield centre.
