POLICE in Nelson have warned motorists to keep their cars locked and valuables out of sight after an increase in car crime.
DC Peter Greenwood said: "There has been quite a lot of car crime recently and we want to make people aware that they need to make sure their vehicles are secure and if they have got any valuables to put them in the boot or out of sight."
In the last few days a Kodak digital camera worth £300 was stolen from a yellow Fiat in Blacko Bar Road, a Vauxhall Nova in Leeds Road was broken into for its tax disc, an angle grinder worth £100 was stolen from a white Mercedes in Lord Street, Brierfield, and two Nokia 3210 mobile phones worth £100 each were taken from a red Vauxhall Corsa in Vernon Street.
A red Honda C90 worth £900, with the registration number JDB 268N, was stolen from the back yard of a house in Napier Street, between Sunday and Wednesday, and a Land Rover Defender 90 worth £20,000 was stolen from Bracewell Street, between 5.10am and 6.10am on Wednesday.
It had the registration number X931 LGJ.
