PRESTON Hockey Club are aiming to set an amazing unbeaten record in the league this season after recording their twelfth victory so far on Saturday.
Their confidence in achieving this will have been boosted after they breached the Plas Coch defence, boasting the second best record in the league, not just once but four times.
Chief destructor was Sam Sinclair who opened the scoring with a quality goal after picking the ball up near the halfway line, and dancing past five defenders before shooting from an acute angle past the keeper.
Phil Bowman, then cut in from the left and combined with James Blackburn to prise open an overworked defence for the first of a series of penalty corners with Sinclair and Bowman going close to scoring.
Richard Sullivan, released Bowman with a raking long ball and he sprinted past a back pedalling defence before sending his reverse stick shot high past a motionless goalkeeper. Plas briefly threatened in the second half but each time they approached goal, they were hassled off the ball. Suffocated of possession, Plas Coch's frustration manifested itself when, after repeatedly eluding the attention of his opponents, Sam Sinclair was cynically hacked down by Plas's captain. Following a brief confrontation, the umpire stepped in but amazingly sent off the wrong player and Sinclair! Preston Skipper Nick Sutcliffe broke down the right before crossing to Bowman, whose shot was saved by the keeper, only for Phil Rowlands to pounce and tuck away his debut 1st XI goal.
Sinclair soon returned to the game and resumed normal service with a well taken reverse stick shot into the bottom corner of the goal before the home side claimed a goal back through a penalty flick.
This Saturday, Preston play hosts to Crewe Vagrants before travelling to Birmingham for the National Indoor qualifying play-offs on Sunday.
