IT was a great night at Ewood on Tuesday as we secured our place in the Worthington Cup final and the only disappointment was that I was not fit enough to be involved.
Now my target has to be to get fit and ready for selection in time for the final against Spurs at the Millennium Stadium.
Cup semi-finals are the type of occasions you dream of being involved in when you are a youngster and I am desperately hoping I will be alright to play my part in what is the first major final for the club in 42 years.
The town is already buzzing and I know it is just going to grow over the next few weeks. Not only is this a chance for some silverware, it is our passport to Europe.
This will mean so much to all of the supporters because they've waited a long time for this and I'm sure they'll enjoy it.
It was a really good performance by the lads because although we were the favourites on the night we still had a job to do and it was never going to be easy.
After beating Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough earlier we put ourselves in a really good position but there was still a lot of work to be done.
It was a great game for the spectators, what you might call a proper cup tie, and not short on entertainment - it had everything! Wednesday had nothing to lose so they were always going to give it everything they had.
I thought we were excellent in the first half and we created enough chances to kill the match off. I'm sure the gaffer would have settled for the 2-0 scoreline at that stage.
They came back into it a little bit in the second half after Garry Flitcroft was sent off but goals from Andy Cole and Craig Hignett sealed the win.
We've come this far and we want to win it now. I'm sure it will be a great day out for everyone at the Millennium Stadium but we want to walk away with the trophy.
If we can finish our first season back in the Premiership with the Worthington Cup, a place in Europe and avoid relegation then that will be some achievement.
The lads will also be chasing a bit more cup glory tomorrow when we are down at the New Den to take on Millwall in the FA Cup. I know it is a trip that Lucas Neill is looking forward to.
He is cup-tied in the Worthington Cup but can't wait to take on his old team mates in this competition. It is certain to be a tough game against a side that is doing really well in the first division and has emerged as genuine promotion contenders.
It is another big game that I would love to play in but the main thing is to get back as soon as possible, hopefully to help Rovers do well on all three fronts.
