YET another hike in council tax is forecast for the coming year -- well what's new? However, it's strange how every year about this time the bad news leaks out.
Indeed, soar or rocket are the favourite adjectives used by the media, so we brace ourselves for the worst possible scenario. Thus, when the increase is lower than anticipated, we feel relieved and accept it without question. A technique that never seems to fail.
However, on a more serious note, it appears most harsh that we have had the worst council settlement in the whole country this year on top of the worst council settlement for the whole of the country last year.
Now the question must be posed - WHY?
Another question is why should some householders shoulder the full amount, while those on 'benefits' - who used to be liable for some of this tax - are now exempt?
Granted, it's hard for some, nevertheless, it seems very unfair in general.
