A CASE of mistaken identity accompanied the tale of long-gone Blackburn rag and bone man "Owd Chipper" who was pictured here recently entertaining a clutch of youngsters with his portable peep show.
For it was said that one of the onlookers was the father of the late Alfred Wainwright, the Blackburn-born author of the famed walkers' guide to the Lake District fells.
But, writes Looking Back fan Jack Fish, the lad was not Wainwright's father but his oldest brother, Frank. And Mr Fish should know as his mother, Alice -- who used to relate her own memories of Chipper -- was Alfred's eldest sister, Alice.
