PRESTON North End boss David Moyes has launched an astonishing attack on the
fans, urging them to put up or shut up.
Moyes devoted most of his programme notes on Saturday to naming and shaming
two fans who had dared to criticise last week's match at home to Gillingham.
The fans, who had written in to a newspaper, claimed that fans were fed of
up the team they were watching. They added that if things did not improve,
some 'less loyal' fans would go elsewhere for matchday entertainment.
Another fan accused North End of lacking spirit and determination.
Moyes hit back: "I would not normally criticse supporters, because they have
been behind me every since I was appointed manager, but there are times when
you have to reply to what you feel is completely unfair comment.
"If the paying customer is note happy with what they are seeing, they should
go elsewhere, we do not want them, and I am sure the loyal supporters do not
want them either."
The enranged manager went on to point out that the current North End team is
best in 20 years, and he added that virutally every game this season had
been entertaining or exciting.
Just sentences after telling disillusioned fans to go elsewhere, Moyes
added: "It has also been mentioned that the club should match the ambition
of the fans.
"Well, at present the level of the club's support is 15th in the division,
the team has recently finished fourth in the First Division.
"The club will only be able to buy at the top end of the market if we are
filling the grounds most weeks, otherwise we must find a Jack Walker figure.
"I reccomend you consider what you are saying before putting forward
unrealistic views about an extremly hardworking and honest football club.
"I have to reply to the lack of spirit, or what was considered the lack of
spirit, because I would be the first to let the players know if that was the
case.
"These players have performed fantastically well in the four years I have
been in charge and they continue to do so."
