SCHOOL MESSAGE: Shadsworth Junior School is a warm and welcoming school with a caring and dedicated staff. We want every child to attend regularly, to be happy and to be a credit to themselves and their families. We place great emphasis on children developing as individuals, responsible for their own actions and self-discipline.

HISTORY LESSON: Our school was built in 1957 to serve the Shadsworth Housing Estate and almost all our pupils still come from the immediate area. We currently have 220 pupils on role although this varies on an almost daily basis. We have a beautifully refurbished library and a fully equipped ICT suite. Three of our classrooms and the ICT suite have interactive computer whiteboards and we hope to increase this soon. There is a school garden, large playgrounds and easy access to large playing fields.

WHAT ABOUT THE PARENTS?: We believe in partnership and try to work closely with parents to achieve the best for their children. Parents are always welcome to visit or to work in school and some of them already do. Several parents who have started out as volunteers are now employed in school in a variety of jobs.

OUT AND ABOUT: As well as the usual sport and music clubs, which operate after school, we are also involved in activities with our local High School and neighbouring primary schools. We place great emphasis on developing the children's artistic skills and canvases, some as big as 3m x 1.5m have been produced in school and during the after school club.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A £100,000 WINDFALL?: In the unlikely event that we had a spare £100,000 we would have no trouble in spending it several times over. Several computer whiteboards, new classroom and staffroom furniture, a new security system, a new office for the secretary and an endless list of resources. However, my favourite idea would be to take the whole school, staff and pupils, away on an educational holiday or to an outdoor pursuit centre to widen their experiences and to raise their expectations.
