COLNE locals are being asked to help police in a new campaign aimed at reducing crime in the town.
A new two-week crime prevention campaign spearheaded by Colne's new community beat officer, PC Phil Davies, was launched in the market hall yesterday.
A crime prevention display in a glass case in the foyer offers shoppers helpful hints and tips on how to keep themselves and their property safe and secure.
Literature, property marking pens and security engraving are being offered at the stand.
Blakey's locksmiths of Barrowford, are offering a free house security survey.
The campaign is a joint initiative between Colne police, Blakey's who are providing the engraving service and Outline Print Services Ltd of Colne who have supplied the free UV property marking pens.
PC Davies said: "The police play a vital role in preventing and detecting crime but we can't do it on our own which is why we are encouraging the public to take on board crime prevention advice.
"Making sure windows and doors are secure and valuables are post coded or engraved and kept out of sight can make a big difference in the fight against c rime."
Anyone with information about any criminal activity is asked to contact local police or ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
