Clarets boss Stan Ternent is today stepping up his search for a new goalkeeper to come in on loan and replace injured stopper Nik Michopoulos.

Ternent has got until noon on Saturday to bring in a keeper on loan ahead of Sunday evening's televised clash with West Bromwich Albion but the aim will be to get him in as soon as possible so that he can work with the rest of the squad on the training ground.

The news that Michopoulos will be out for several weeks comes at a bad time with the Clarets facing a make or break month in February.

"It looks like I am going to have to bring someone in on loan and so that is what I am trying to do," said Ternent.

Ternent's men face a relentless schedule of eight games in just 24 days, a programme that is certain to have a huge bearing on where they will finish the season.

The Greek stopper had a scan on his torn calf muscle yesterday and looks certain to be missing for several weeks at the pivotal point of the season.

Luigi Cennamo endured a nightmare debut and so the search for experienced cover has begun in earnest.

Ternent has not brought in a loan signing to date this season but he knows he has to now. As well as Middlesbrough's former Claret Marlon Beresford, West Ham's Shaka Hislop and Craig Forrest, Liverpool's Pegguy Arphexad and Fulham's Marcus Hahnemann are all potential targets.
