TERNENT has allowed reserve team striker Anthony Shandran to further his football education across the Irish Sea with Dublin-based League of Ireland side St Patrick's Athletic.

He is hopeful that the loan move will be the making of the player who has filled both central and wide roles for Ronnie Jepson's side.

The 20-year-old from North Shields is one of the current crop of players at the club recommended by the legendary scout Jack Hixon.

A year ago this weekend Shandran made his one and only appearance in the first team for Burnley.

That was as a substitute in the 4-2 defeat at Crewe Alexandra.

But he has failed to even make the bench this season and, following the arrival of young Greek striker Dimitri Papadopoulos and the experienced Tony Ellis, his appearances in the reserves side have also been restricted.

He was an early sub for the injured Andy Payton in the recent home draw with Tranmere and he played the full match against Wrexham a fortnight ago.

But Shandran needs more first team experience and a month in Ireland should see him enjoy a number of games and hopefully return to Turf Moor a better player.

St Patrick's are currently involved in a three way tussle at the top of the table involving Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne and manager Pat Dolan is hoping that Shandran's hunger to succeed will make him a useful addition to the squad.

Former Manchester United, Aston Villa and Ireland star Paul McGrath is the biggest name to have come from the Dublin based club.
