FORMER Bury schoolboy Hassan Butt said he helped two Camp X-Ray detainees reach Afghanistan.
The 21-year-old Islamic said he recruited Shafiq Rasul, aged 24, and 20-year-old Asif Iqbal, of Tipton in the West Midlands.
Both are being held in Cuba by the the USA along with Feroz Abbasi, aged 22, of London.
Butt, who attended Bury College, is currently in Lahore, in Pakistan. He said: "These two Rasul and Iqbal are aid workers not soldiers. Our records show these people were on an aid mission to give medicine, food, clothing and books to the people of Afghanistan."
"As a result of their noble work they are being treated like animals and the Government seems content to allow this."
Police are still trying to work out whether Butt could be arrested under anti-terrorism laws if he ever returned to Britain.
