A TOWN councillor has urged train bosses to put more carriages on services using the Wigan to Manchester line.
Cllr Derek Gradwell says angry passengers at Daisy Hill station sometimes get violent with ticket collectors because the trains are packed.
He told a Westhoughton town council meeting: "There's been an increase in the number of passengers and this has resulted in overcrowding. The number of people using the line has increased but the number of carriages has decreased substantially.
"Sometimes, when a train is cancelled, the next train is packed and impossible to get on. People from Westhoughton are being made late for work. There have been cases of violence. People are becoming very frustrated and drivers and ticket collectors have had to bite the bullet."
The council said it would write to First North Western Trains to ask if more carriages could be put on the line.
