MEMBERS of the Task Force which investigated the underlying causes of the summer riots will go under the spotlight tonight in an extraordinary meeting of Burnley Council.

The public will be able to question the group about its findings.

Task Force chairman Lord Tony Clarke and members of the group will be at the meeting in the James Hargreaves stand at Burnley Football Club's Turf Moor ground.

It is the first time members of the public have had a chance to question the Task Force about its findings.

The meeting will open at 6.30pm with an hour-long question and answer session.

Members of the public can then stay on to hear councillors debate the issue.

Council leader Stuart Caddy will move eight recommendations, including that they recognise the work of the Task Force "in an appropriate manner" and welcome its report.

The council will pledge to respond to the Task Force recommendations as approved at a community conference earlier this month and produce an action plan to go before the full council in April.

Coun Caddy will recommend that the council continues to support the translation unit and the equality and access team and that urgent attention be given to the setting up of a corporate communications unit.

The council is to follow a recommendation of the Task Force in forming a closer liaison with the media.

The final part of the resolution relates to work already started between the police, council and representatives of the taxi trade and to approve in principle the installation of CCTV systems in licensed vehicles.
