OLD soldiers of the East Lancashire Regiment will be taking a trip back in time at the fifth Lancashire Food Festival.
The event which samples traditional foods and drinks from the area including black puddings, fudge, sausage, meat pies and selected beers to wash them down is also set to include Benedictine Liqueur this year.
The drink was first brought to the county by the East Lancashire 11th Battalion who used it to warm them up when based in Fecamp during the winter of 1918.
The soldiers realised it was just as effective at warding off the cold in Lancashire winters back home and demanded that it be provided in their local taverns.
Anyone who has not tried it before will get the perfect opportunity at this year's festival on Thursday March 7 from 11am to 3pm in Accrington Town Hall.
