IREAD with interest that Jack Straw wants to bring home the three Britons accused of fighting for Osama bin Laden for trial (LET, January 24).
I strongly disagree with Mr Straw. Whenever any of our countrymen find themselves arrested in a foreign country, he doesn't want to bring them home for trial -- they stand trial in the country where an offence was committed.
Besides which, there is more chance of justice being done in America, than 'soft' Britain.
The accused would probably get a light sentence if they were convicted here; or all the do-gooders would protest.
Then there is the question of cost -- the bill for flying them home, the security surrounding any trial, the cost of the trial itself, not to mention the cost of feeding and clothing them.
The money would be better spent on hospitals, schools, transport or any number of worthwhile causes.
M WIGNALL (Mr), Station Close, Rishton.
