training sessions to raise the standard of dog behaviour in Bury will also be raising money for a worthy cause in the future.
Professional canine instructor Gordon Salmon has been running Sunday morning dog obedience classes since 1983.
He now plans to give all proceeds from his outdoor sessions to Bury Hospice for at least the next five years.
The training teaches simple dog obedience, as well giving owners the chance to learn more about responsible dog ownership, and the welfare and management of different breeds.
Mr Salmon made his generous decision after deciding that he no longer needed the money from the Sunday sessions himself. Having lost his father Ron to cancer eight years ago, he thought that the hospice would be an ideal beneficiary.
Mr Salmon said: "I enjoy the group sessions on Sunday morning but have no need of the money myself and would rather it went to a worthwhile cause.
"Because I lost my dad to cancer, I thought the hospice would be the best idea.
"Owners will find from the exercises that they have a dog which understands them, and that they understand the responsibilities that they have as owners."
The group's first charity session began on Sunday (Feb 3) with participants meeting up on Knowsley Street, Bury.
Sessions cost £2 and are open to anyone, and all types of dog.
Anyone wishing to attend should contact Gordon first on 761 2057.
