A TROOP of Hyndburn Scouts will need more than a bob a job if they are to raise enough money to fix their leaky roof.
A campaign to raise £5,000 has now been launched for funds to put a new roof over the heads of the Second Rishton Baptist Scout Group and to provide toilet facilities at the Scout Hall, in Commercial Street.
Already a generous mystery donor has chipped in £250 and parents of the Scouts raised £450 selling tickets for a disco at Rishton Conservative Club.
Plans are also under way by the newly formed Parents Support Group to hold a race night, sponsored walk and a children's disco in the near future.
The Scout group was first registered in 1948 and the Scout Hall has been used by the group since 1970, during which time the roof has started to show signs of wear and tear.
The absence of a toilet at the hall has also been causing an inconvenience for far too long.
John Fielding, 50, Scouter in charge, who been with the group since he was eight years old, said: "I have been overwhelmed by the parents' support in putting together this group and raising the first amount of money.
"It is looking promising and we hope to have the full amount as soon as possible and then we can get to work fixing the place up."
