A MAN who was seriously injured in a vicious street attack is home after three weeks in hospital -- but has little recollection of the assault.
The first thing Anthony Grogan remembers is waking up in Blackburn Royal Infirmary, a week after being bottled outside the takeaway on Whalley New Road, Roe Lee, on Wednesday January 16 at around 6.30pm.
Now he is resting at his Jasper Street home in Blackburn just minutes away from where the attack happened. He is on sick leave from Bootstrap Enterprises, Railway Road, Blackburn, where he is a graphic designer.
Anthony said that since the attack he gets confused very easily and has a poor memory.
He said: "I was told I had a bottle smashed over the back of my head But I cannot remember what they did. I just remember blood all over the place. It's upsetting and frustrating not being able to piece it together."
Police said Anthony was returning home after going out for a drink with his brother Barry. He stopped off at the kebab takeaway, bought some food and was assaulted moments later.
Soon after, a passer-by found him lying unconscious in a pool of blood and called an ambulance, which took Anthony to Blackburn Royal Infirmary.
He was then transferred to the neurological ward at the Royal Preston Hospital to provide better treatment for his serious head injuries.
Anthony is not sure what treatment he was given during his stay in hospital.
As his condition stabilised, he was returned to Blackburn Royal Infirmary, where he was until last Thursday.
Anthony added: "I vaguely remember being in an ambulance, then waking up at the Infirmary a week later with my mum and sister there.
"I hope they catch whoever was responsible, but I don't really know how I feel about it, with my memory being so bad. I just want to get back on my feet and recover."
The attacker is described as white, 6ft tall with blond or fair short-cropped hair. He was wearing a blue jacket.
Anyone with information is urged to call Blackburn police on 01254 512 12 or the Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
A man has been questioned about the attack on Anthony and he has ben released on police bail until February 9.
