POLICE are appealing for information after an armed robbery at Belmont post office yesterday lunchtime.
The driver of a post office security van was followed into the post office by two men at 12.30pm.
The men, who are believed to have escaped empty-handed, forced the security guard to hand over the security bag he was carrying and threatened him with a hammer.
They then forced him outside the premises and demanded that his fellow security worker who was in the van hand out cash from the van.
The guard, who was wearing a helmet, was hit over the head with a hammer before breaking free.
The robbers are described as white and in their mid 20s.
