IWAS very pleased to read that, at long last, work was going to start on repairs to Darwen Tower (LET, January 21).
I was starting to believe the rumours that funds would not be made available until it was renamed Blackburn with Darwen Tower, as happened with Darwen's Brass Band.
Also I read that Darwen's Millennium Mark globe is ready, but cannot be put in place until our Big Brother's globe is in place in Blackburn.
This may be a good thing as it leaves plenty of time to correct the silly mistake on the plinth by Darwen market. I walk round and round it unable to make any sense of it. Surely, it should read 'Absque Labor Nihil.'
I can understand Blackburn councillors not knowing the difference, but if councillors elected to serve Darwen are willing to accept it as it is, shame on them. At present it translates as 'Nothing Without Labour,' making one think it might be a deliberate mistake.
