CHRIS Pettigrew could do nothing to prevent Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School from maintaining their dominance in the pool despite swimming to two individual honours.
The St Wilfrid's sixth former swam to success in the individual medley and butterfly events but saw his school finish joint third in the four team event.
He also finished as runner-up in the front crawl.
Pettigrew touched home first in the individual medley in 1.08.59 and completed his double when he won the butterfly in 29.87 as St Wilfrid's finished with 13 points -- 25 points behind overall winners QEGS.
Following the school's success in last month's schools swimming gala, QEGS repeated the act in the team championships for the higher ages.
The Blackburn school won four of the seven events included the medley relay and freestyle relay to finish top of the table with 38 points -- 14 points clear of nearest rivals St Mary's College.
L O'Connor won the back crawl in 37.34 and C Farnworth won the breaststroke in 37.28.
St Mary's College student J Wilson prevented Pettigrew from a treble when he won the front crawl in 27.12.
St Mary's finished in second place with 24 points with St Wilfrid's tied in third place with Blackburn College on 13 points.
There was a similar story in the girls event with Stephanie Abbott of QEGS winning two events but saw her team finish down the leaders board.
Abbott won the butterfly in 15.84 and the front crawl in 31.43 and also finished as runner-up in the back crawl.
However, QEGS had to settle for fourth place overall as Westholme claimed the team honours.
Again it was success in the relay races that laid the foundation for the school's win as they game first in both the medlay and freestyle events.
The school's other success fell to S Lowe who won the back crawl in 37.26 as Westholme finished in first place with 45 points.
St Wildrid's were second with 31 points thanks largely to Nicola Veith's win in the breaststroke which she won in 40.29.
G Boyes of St Mary's College won the individual medley in 1.16.69 to help her team to third place with 27 points.
QEGS were fourth with 16 points with Blackburn College fifth with nine points.
