MANSFIELD High School have reached the final of the President's Cup for the second year running after a slick performance against Westholme.

And the Colne school will be looking to go one better than last year after finishing as runners-up.

Their added incentive is to become the first state funded school to lift the trophy in a competition dominated by private schools.

Left side striker Suzanne Waterworth did the damage with a well taken first half hat-trick but coach Lil Dykes said it was a fine all-round team performance which had three regulars missing.

Kim Sanderson made her first team debut and year nine students Kirsty Black and Rachel Crawford were both called in to action.

Mansfield were forced to soak up some early pressure from a keen Westholme side who were looking to reach their first ever Presidents Cup final.

And Amber Jordan, Westholme's only county player went close on a number of occasions.

However, as soon as Mansfield scored they took command of the first half.

The energetic Dani Atherton made a good break down the right and her cross was swept home by Waterworth at the near post.

Mansfield second goal was a superb team move.

Captain Charlotte Hartley, recently called in to the England under 16s squad, exchanged a series of one-twos down the right flank with Lisa Crewe before the ball was whipped in for Waterworth to turn home at the near post.

Westholme were restricted to few scoring opportunities as Mansfield piled forward.

And it was only a matter of time before they scored a third goal to take the tie beyond Westholme.

And it was Waterworth who scored the all important third goal to complete her hat-trick.

Westholme, who were missing influential player Tammy Gibson through injury, tightened things up at the back in the second half.

And Mansfield scored just one more time when Atherton crowned a fine performance of her own with a wonderful solo goal, cutting in from the right and cracking an unstoppable shot past the Westholme keeper.

Mansfield will now play Kirkham Grammar School in the final.

Miss Dykes said: "It is great to get back in the final again and hopefully we can go one better than we did last year. It was a great team performance."
