stars on video single LEIGH'S fifth Beatle is heading for the charts.

Jeff Greenhalgh, the town's 45-years-old Paul McCartney lookalike, has joined other noted doubles to feature on Pulp's latest video single "Bad Cover Version".

It is expected to be released at the end of the month.

Jeff, of Sefton Street, Leigh, was surprised when he was called three weeks ago to join Rod Stewart, Dave Bowie, Elton John and Bee Gee lookalikes on the song led by Jarvis Cocker.

He was given one line to sing in the "Band Aid spoof" which was filmed by Black Dog Films.

He said: "Jarvis Cocker is a very nice bloke, nothing like the impression he gives on TV. It was great to go into a studio and star on a single. Brilliant.

"I had to sing the line 'Bikini clad girl on the front who invited you in' as Paul McCartney. It's a catchy song and I think it will do well."

Big offer

It's the first big offer bus engineer Jeff has taken up since his second appearance on TV's Stars in Their Eyes over Christmas.

He said: "I've been asked to tour around Spain, but I'm a bit of a home bird. I love doing the working men's clubs at weekends. I'm a typical Leyther and I can't change. I certainly didn't expect to appear on a pop video.

"I've had a smashing time as Paul McCartney and my one big ambition is to meet him. People say I look like him, but I remind them I'm 45 not 60."

Asked if he now gets spotted in the streets following his Stars' quip that he spent six hours in Leigh town centre for two days and no-one recognised him, Jeff said: "I wish I'd never said that. It was greatly exaggerated but it was just a bit of fun.

"It was the worst thing I could have said, now everyone stops me and tells me they do know me."
