REBECCA White won a bronze medal in the AAAs Indoor Championships at Cardiff.

The triple jumper from Haslingden twice landed jumps of 12.64m in the televised meeting to finish behind Ashia Hansen of Shaftsbury and Ireland's Taniesha Scanlon.

It was only her second competition of the season -- she jumped 12:27m at an earlier warm up event in Cardiff -- as she begins her build up to the Commonwealth Games.

Currently she is still operating off a 13 stride run up, so she was pretty pleased with the distance and the approach will increase to 15 or 17 strides as she gets used to her new found extra speed.

She isn't competing too much indoors this year but she will be returning to Cardiff a couple of times.

Next Thursday she will be there with the University of Bath squad for their annual match against the University of Wales, and the following weekend she will be in the Great Britain Under-23 Team which takes on Sweden, Germany and France.

At the end of the month she will be in Glasgow for the Universities Championships.

White's improvement in the last year has brought with it her first tangible rewards with a scholarship from UK Athletics to help her with her accommodation, and a £400 grant from the Ron Pickering Fund.

In April she will be going to Malaga for a week's warm weather training with the University.
