FORMER Shakers supremo Terry Robinson has stepped into a new job as Football Executive of First Division Sheffield United.
The news comes less than eight days after he resigned as chairman and chief executive of Bury Football Club.
In his new role at Bramall Lane Mr Robinson will be working with United chairman Derek Dooley and plc chief executive John Thurman.
And he has revealed to the Bury Times that the Blades, managed by former Bury boss Neil Warnock, were on his case just hours after the news broke of his leaving Gigg Lane last Monday morning.
"I received a telephone call in the afternoon from Sheffield United inviting me to go and have a chat," he said.
"I went over to see them the following day when they were playing Sheffield Wednesday in the big derby at Bramall Lane.
"With 30,000 on the ground the atmosphere was superb and you could see just what potential there is at the club.
"It really was too good an offer to refuse and I was flattered they offered me the post."
There will be plenty of familiar faces in the corridors at Sheffield United as Mr Robinson, 57, will be linking up with former Shakers manager Warnock who walked out on the club to join the Blades in November 2000.
Former goalkeeping coach Kevin Blackwell is Warnock's number two at the club while ex-assistant manager at Gigg Lane, Ron Reid, is still a member of the coaching staff at Bramall Lane.
The Sheffield job wasn't the only opportunity that presented itself to the former Bury chairman after his resignation.
Mindful of his experience of running a team on a shoestring he was approached by a handful of teams, notably one from the north west.
"I didn't want to go to a club close by," he added. "But the Sheffield job seemed just right.
"It's far enough away from the north west but near enough to travel to although I will be moving into my own place over there.
"I'm no different from anyone else and as a man with a family need to keep working.
"When the opportunity to go to Sheffield came up I knew I had to take it.
"Basically, I think they want me as a fresh pair of eyes to look over the operation there and I hope to be able to help take the club forward in the future."
