YOUR article on the rebranding of Lancashire County Council (LET, January 26) called the Red Rose of Lancashire a 'Tudor' rose and we also had Eric Leaver (LET, January 30) doing the same in his column. Sacrilege!
The Tudor rose came into being after the War of the Roses and was ordered by the Tudor king, Henry VII.
The Labour Party have tried to purloin the red rose as their emblem and if 'our' Red Rose keeps being called a Tudor rose, some people will start to believe it is true!
Hyndburn MP Greg Pope, stated the obvious -- that it would be absolutely barmy to get rid of the Red Rose and I wholeheartedly agree with him.
The 'Tudor' rose consists of the Red Rose of Lancashire combined with the White Rose of Yorkshire.
