AFTER an incredible 37 years of teaching, lecturer Beatrice Frost has retired.
Mrs Frost said goodbye to her colleagues and students at Bury College on last Friday (Feb 1) and was presented with a bouquet of flowers and gardening vouchers.
She was 24 when she began teaching and worked full time for an engineering firm in Bury. She taught typewriting to evening classes, which were the only classes available at that time. In those days, day-release classes were only offered to boys and not girls, and there were no full-time day classes.
During her career Mrs Frost has seen many changes. When she began there were manual typewriters, these were replaced with electronic typewriters and in 1984 word processors were first used.
Mrs Frost (64), who lives in the Seedfield area of Bury, will be enjoying spending more time with her family and hopes in the near future to offer her services voluntarily to a local primary school, both in reading and information technology.
Fellow lecturer and programme manager Millie McCann said: "Beatrice has been a member of the business team for all these years and is always supportive to both her colleagues and her students. She is an expert at word processing and is always keen to share her knowledge. We wish her all the best for the future."
