LEIGH head teacher Chris Groves is changing schools after Easter.
She will leave Leigh St Peter's Infants after five years to take charge at Lowton St Luke's next term.
Mrs Groves said: "I will be leaving for a new challenge but with many wonderful memories.
"Teamwork has been the keyword at St Peter's and this is down to the determination to succeed of everyone connected with the school, from the pupils to parents and friends, to the dinner ladies and administrative people, to the support staff and every teacher.
"This school belongs to the community and I am sure they will drive it on to better things in the future."
Mrs Groves, who lives in Leigh with architect husband David and their two children, is a native of Southport. She came to Leigh via university in Liverpool "to gain one or two years of experience".
Her first school was the Xll Apostles. She then moved on to Gilded Hollins and then spent a decade at Astley St Stephen's, first as infant co-ordinator, later as deputy head.
