NEW hi-tech electronic equipment will soon help Bury travellers plan their journey.
More than £600,000 is being spent on a new network of electronic information points to help commuters throughout Greater Manchester access public transport information.
Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority (GMPTA) says plans are in place to provide 50 new information points at bus stations and other transport terminals and interchanges in the county.
The first stage of the project lists Bury Interchange among 25 sites earmarked for potential installation in time for the Commonwealth Games. Passengers will be able to access a range of public transport information through the new electronic points, including the ability to plan a journey by entering start and end points, as well as detailed timetable information.
Councillor Winston Ramsey, the authority's spokesman for Bury, said: "These electronic information points are a great way of making timetable and journey information more easily accessible to passengers at all times.
"It's our policy to constantly look for ways to improve access to public transport information and the electronic points are an important part of that policy."
The data available via the new electronic information points will also be provided to local councils, who could make it available via their own networks of electronic information terminals.
Coun Andrew Fender, of the Authority, said: "The new information points are an excellent way of keeping passengers informed, particularly at times when there may not be staff on hand to offer advice and information."
