A PENSIONER has warned of an "accident waiting to happen" after temporary repairs to a pothole in his street.

Dennis Tabbinor, of Priory Drive, said workmen for the council arrived last Wednesday to repair a hole on the road.

But he is worried that it is still a hazard.

65-year-old Mr Tabbinor said: "Four men came along in a lorry but the very next day it was as bad again.

"I was concerned because of the size of the hole and its depth.

"We're on a bus route and wagons also come along here.

"I've had to go out every night to sweep up the debris and twice my windows were hit by small pebbles.

"The hole was right at the bottom of my drive and I had to put an old traffic cone out there -- even though it's not my job to."

Mr Tabbinor, who has lived in the road for the past 12 months, said he rang up to complain to the council that the pothole was still causing trouble.

He added: "It started off as a hole and it has been spreading.

"For the last couple of weeks workmen have been shovelling Tarmac on it and stamping it down with their feet hoping it will go away.

"But it's like a trench and getting worse and worse.

"If nothing is done it's going to cause an accident.

"Somebody could get hit especially in the dark."

Graham Burgess, Blackburn with Darwen Council's executive director for regeneration and technical services, said: "The pothole on Priory Drive was filled in recently and as far as we were concerned the work was done satisfactorily.

"Following Mr Tabbinor's call an inspector went out on Wednesday to make sure the area was not dangerous and a temporary emergency repair has been ordered.

"A permanent repair will follow in due course.

"We will be contacting Mr Tabbinor to thank him for his concern."
