HAVING attended the Whitefield and Unsworth Area Board Roadshow, it came as no surprise to me to find our local councillors scare-mongering again in order to hike-up council taxes above the rate of inflation.
It didn't even shock me to see our newly-elected Tory councillor defend Labour over their wastage of money; after all, what used to be a council with some common sense has now become "Bury Metropolitan Gravy Train" where you toe the party line, or else.
The meeting was, as usual, controlled by the councillors who told us what they thought we should know and withheld what they didn't want us to know.
When I asked why the council wanted to create a new car park within a local park when we have three ready-made car parks already, Councillor Pam Walker replied that those car parks "may not always be there". This led me to believe that there is a hidden agenda for what is left of Whitefield. Do the council know something and are they withholding it from local residents?
The council should scrap these expensive Roadshows and send every household a questionnaire to fill in. That way I am sure they would get a more accurate consensus of opinion than handing questionnaires to the 30 or 35 people who actually attend these meetings.
