LEIGH Athletic found visiting Willows a tough nut to crack but the home side enjoyed the better of the early exchanges, Danny Wilson hitting the post midway through the half.

Willows showed plenty of character to go ahead on the half-hour when Simon Parkes finished off a crisp move with a fine drive into the bottom corner.

The Latics came out a transformed after the break, and only a fine save from Simon Darnton in the Willows' goal kept out a curling shot from Carl Shepherd. Leigh eventually drew level when Danny Wilson set up Jonny Knowles on the hour, and five minutes later the same combination put the home side ahead with a copycat goal.

The visitors were not finished though, and Dave Stott exploited a rare slip in the Leigh defence to slip home the equaliser and claim a deserved point.

Hindsford dropped two vital points when they were held at home to a 3-3 draw by Manchester Royal.

In the Second Division, Wythenshawe Amateurs moved into second spot with a 4-2 home sin over leaders Atherton Town.

Leigh Athletic all but sealed the Third Division Championship with a 2-1 at Ashton Athletic. Pennington lashed five past hosts Whalley Range to win 5-2.
