A FURIOUS mum today blasted staff at a Blackburn high school for not informing parents that a ceiling had fallen on a class.
The woman, who did not wish to be named, spoke out following the incident at Queen's Park High School in Shadsworth Road.
The school said the ceiling collapsed following unruly behaviour by some pupils.
The woman said her 11-year-old son had complained of headache and blurred vision after the ceiling collapsed on the Year Seven class on Thursday.
Nobody was injured in the incident, which school bosses blamed on unruly behaviour.
The mother said her son told her the false ceiling fell down around 10.30am on Thursday.
She said her son did not receive medical attention from staff and the first thing she knew about it was when he came home from school.
Headteacher Vicki Devonport confirmed there had been an incident and said the parents of boys involved were contacted by telephone.
She said those who could not be reached were sent letters.
"There was an incident in the school on Thursday and four boys have admitted causing some damage to the ceiling through horseplay.
"The matter was reported to me immediately and action was taken to ensure that the area was made safe and that the pupils who were there had not been injured.
"We attempted to contact the parents of the four boys by phone where possible and a letter was sent out. To my knowledge no other parents have contacted the school regarding this incident."
But the mother said her son could have been seriously injured.
She added: "He has a bruise on his shoulder and he was complaining of a headache and blurred vision.
"If the school had told us I would have brought him home and taken him to the infirmary. What if he had gone to sleep that night and become unconscious?
"I wanted to keep him off the next day but he insisted he wanted to go to school.
"I think it's disgusting that the school never told me about it."
