A CRACKDOWN on car crime is to hit Morecambe in the next three weeks - and police want the public to help.
Officers in Morecambe are calling on members of the public to alert them if anyone is acting suspiciously around cars as extra resources are concentrated on vehicle offences.
Mounted police, dogs and support units will be in action across the Morecambe area, which also includes Carnforth and Heysham as part of 'Operation Labyrinth.'
The effort aims to put a stop to the activities of some of the town's prolific car thieves.
Police will also work with local traders, schools and other organisations to inform the public of problems which are dogging specific areas of the town.
"For these three weeks in particular we would ask anyone who sees anything suspicious to report it as quickly as possible," said PC Simon Coates, a member of the auto-crime team at Morecambe.
"This operation is going on 24 hours a day for three weeks, targeting specific areas and individuals who we suspect are responsible for such offences."
Police have also repeated their advice to car owners to keep their vehicles safe.
Owners should not leave valuables in their car, leave vehicles unlocked, they should use a car alarm if fitted and remember to park in well-lit areas.
Anyone who sees any suspect activity in and around the area is asked to call Morecambe Police urgently on 01524 63333.
