Leigh RU 5, Aspull 21: STRONG winds and a sticky pitch made playing conditions difficult as Aspull dominated the early exchanges.
Leigh defended stubbornly but a missed tackle led to a converted try for the visitors, followed by a second shortly afterwards when a handling error presented them with a gift run-in for a 14-0 lead.
Leigh mounted a series of attacks and were denied a score due to a forward pass , but more loose handling saw chances missed before half time.
After the re-start the Leigh forwards dominated the visiting pack and threatened the Aspull line for sustained periods but were continually thwarted by some rugged defence or further handling errors, one of which again gave away possession for Aspull to score against the run of play for a flattering 21-0 scoreline.
Leigh resumed their attacks with Aspull defending desperately and were eventually rewarded when Fletcher crossed in the corner.
Fletcher and Murray were the pick of the Leigh backs, with the whole of the pack deserving a mention for a strong performance which went unrewarded.
