DESPITE a gale force wind, Tyldesley RU put in their best performance of the season to date with a 25-10 win over Kirkby Lonsdale at St George's Park.
The weather, or more precisely the wind, was always going to have a bearing on the outcome of the match and with the visitors having first use of it, surprisingly they could only muster a three point lead after 20 minutes from a penalty.
Tyldesley used the powerful running of Darren Edge and Craig Pulman to good effect creating some havoc in the Kirkby defensive line. Scrum-half Lee Cunliffe was on top of his game and he spotted the chance to send
winger Gary Corbett in on the left.
Moments later Craig Pulman broke a tackle on the right and his momentum took him over the line, again the wind made it impossible for Eddie Wallbank to land the conversion.
Problems
With Tyldesley ahead 10-3 at the break, and with the wind in their faces, Kirkby knew the second period would bring more problems and indeed it soon did.
A ruck on the 22 saw Cunliffe pick-up, dummy and race in from 20 metres out for a try converted by Wallbank. The visitors responded with a converted try however, Tyldesley finished the game the stronger with a Wallbank penalty and another Cunliffe try to round-off in style.
Tyldesley take a break from league action this weekend but face the long trek to Cumbria to take on Whitehaven side St Benedicts where they hope to pick up another two points.
Tyldesley Knights made the trip to South Cumbrian fells only to find the pitch at Kirkby Lonsdale under three inches of water, as the game kicked-off the heavens opened and the three inches soon became five leaving the referee no alternative to abandon the game in the interest of players safety.
Tyldesley Dragons had a good old fashioned tussle at Ashton-on-Mersey before both teams settled for a 5-5 draw.
Tyldesley Colts entertained Ormskirk who showed a great deal of improvement from their last meeting when Tyldesley won 48-10. In a keenly fought contest Tyldesley came through to win 26-16 thanks to tries from James Eckersley, Jamie Parker, Mark Jones and Mark Dickinson who also landed three conversions.
