If the Wadsworth Trog's 20 mile course with 4000' of climb is too much, there is always the Half Trog at nine miles and 1500'.

Both races start at 10am on Saturday from the Old Town Cricket Club at Hebden Bridge. The closing date has passed, so check first with organisers Jon Underwood 01422-249195 (Trog) or Allan Greenwood 01422-375682 (Half).

The Parbold Hill Race is more a multi-terrain event than a true fell race. The 6.75 miler starts at 2pm on Saturday from Bispham Durning's Endowed school playing field, Chorley Road, Hilldale, near Parbold.

Horwich Harriers are catering for juniors on Saturday, and seniors on Sunday. Saturday is the Open Junior Cross Country Meeting for under 9, under 11, under 13 and under 15 boys and girls.

The venue is Bob's Brew, Off Crown Lane, Horwich. Registration closes at 11am with races starting at 11:15am.

The 11 mile long Winter Hill Fell Race on Sunday is for grown ups. It starts 11am from Rivington Barn. There is no entry on the day. The man to plead with is Tony Varley 01204-669570.

A brand new race from Red Rose Road Runners is the Myerscough 7M road race. Start and finish is Myerscough College.

It starts at 11am on Sunday. The Wigan 10K starts at Haigh Hall Country Park at 10am on Sunday. There are no changing facilities at this venue.
