ROCKS were brought to life for pupils at Wesley Methodist School in Radcliffe, when they were given a firm grounding in geology.
Visits to Manchester University Museum were arranged for nine to 11-year-olds at the Forth Road school as part of their half term project, "A Life of Stone".
The idea was co-ordinated by environmental artist Gordon McLellen, who is sponsored by the green charity Forest Dance to teach pupils about the wonders buried below ground.
They later made rock puppets, banners and costumes as part of the project, which culminated in a dramatic production for parents, staff and other pupils.
Head teacher Geoff Hirst said: "The performance was wonderful and very much enjoyed by everyone in the audience.
"The project has developed the children's concept of time and the Earth, and made them think more about caring for the planet."
