BLACKPOOL supporters will be cheering on their heroes at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Sunday, March 24, for the second time within a year.
More than 2,000 Seasiders fans went crazy at Huddersfield Town's McAlpine Stadium on Tuesday night when Martin Bullock hammered home the extra time "golden goal" which clinched Blackpool's place in the LDV Vans Trophy final.
They had waited a nail-biting 104 minutes as Blackpool quickly lost the two-goal lead they had built up in the first leg of the game at Bloomfield Road. The aggregate score remained level at full time so the game went into extra time to be decided by the next goal to be scored -- the so-called "golden goal".
And when the golden chance fell to Bullock he made no mistake, to give Blackpool an aggregate 4-3 victory.
The club last made the trip to Cardiff in May, 2001, when they beat Leyton Orient in the Division Three play-off final.
Their opponents in the LDV Vans Trophy final will be either Bristol City or Cambridge United.
A delighted Blackpool Mayor, Councillor Sue Wright, said the club was getting better and better. "I'm really pleased about Tuesday's win, and I think it's great news for Blackpool," she said.
She said the Seasiders enjoy "quite a following" at the Town Hall. "We hope they do really well at Cardiff. The team is improving and it's nice to be in with a chance of winning something like this. Good luck to them!"
