Clarets skipper Steve Davis will return to full training next week after enduring the most frustrating few months of his career.
But the imminent return to the front line of the inspirational centre half is a massive boost for Burnley boss Stan Ternent as he prepares his troops for the crucial battles that lie ahead.
"Steve Davis will join the full squad next week," said Ternent who has also been given a lift by the successful return of experienced defender Mitchell Thomas to competitive action.
Throughout his career, 33-year-old Davis has been blessed by being virtually injury free and when he limped off at the end of the 2-2 draw at Gillingham almost four months ago he never have imagined he would not kick a ball in anger until spring had almost sprung.
Initially the defensive duo of Arthur Gnohere and Ian Cox excelled in his absence and the Clarets conceded only one goal in November as they surged back to the top of the table.
But Ternent always maintained that his absence was a blow to the squad as his knee injury eventually forced him to wear a leg brace to help his recovery.
With Thomas also ruled out by injury the Burnley boss had limited options when it came to making changes at the back but for the trip to Watford he did leave Cox out and used midfielder Kevin Ball in a central defensive role.
But the sight of the skipper returning to the full training session on Monday will give the whole squad a lift as his importance to the side is recognised by his peers.
He only missed a couple of matches last year and, having played 16 league games to date this season, is now just eight away from clocking up his 300th in the famous claret and blue.
If he is back in the next couple of games he will be reunited with a familiar face as he will line-up in front of on loan keeper Marlon Beresford who played behind him at Turf Moor seven seasons ago during Davis's first spell at the club.
Paul Cook, Cox and currently Ball have all worn the captain's armband with distinction but it is telling that everyone at the club knows who is being talked about when the name skipper is used.
And as the battle for promotion to the Premier League hots up, it is the perfect time for his cool head to come back into the reckoning.
